Dr. Lauren Edwards

About me

I have experience working with a broad range of clinical issues and enjoy working with all different types of people. Many of my clients find that they have problematic patterns in relationships but struggle to understand why or how to make the changes they want to gain deep and lasting connections. I work best with clients who are insightful, passionate, curious, and motivated.Therapy should be a conversation.

I strongly believe it is important to strike a balance in therapy between doing the "deeper" work (exploring feelings and thoughts, clarifying patterns, and understanding how your past impacts your present) and teaching skills that help clients make clear, concrete changes as needed. I draw on attachment/psychodynamic therapies as well as skill-based therapies such as CBT and DBT. Therapy should be able to offer some measure of immediate relief while also helping create emotional changes that can last a lifetime.

My personal style is warm and nonjudgmental, yet also active and direct. A good therapy relationship provides you with the opportunity to be honest and authentic, while also feeling safe and understood, yet thoughtfully challenged. I take our work together seriously, but I don’t take myself too seriously (and I try to help my clients do the same). I care deeply about my clients. I believe the details are important and I remember the significant moments of your life as well as the name of your childhood pet. My clients often describe me as authentic, intelligent, and emotionally attuned with a good sense of humor.
